Tasos Koukourigos

He was born in 1972. He took his first courses on lutherie next to his brother, Yannis. He was soon turned to be a great craftsman specialised in stave method.

From 1998 until 2002 we organised and directed the Greek Lutherie School , which belongs to the Ministry of Culture and is located to the town of Kastoria (photo). Since 2002 we decided to focus exclusively on the lutherie and on the study of its rich tradition in Greece. In our study we introduced a variety of methods and techniques coming from different fields of sciences such as physics, mathematics, computer technology etc. For us, it is a great challenge to study further the introduction of elements coming from the traditional lutherie to the so called “modern” area of the guitar construction, which combines both steel string and nylon string guitars. Our results so far -specifically the ones we have reached in relation to the study of the sound-, illustrate clearly that this new innovative perception that is related to the sound box of the guitar would undoubtedly open up new prospects both on the construction of the sound box and on the sound.
